Glendora, CA (Volleyball) – The Citrus College Owls volleyball squad continued blazing a trail through the WSC with their 4th conference win as they defeated Bakersfield College in 4 games 3-1.
The Lady Owls cruised through Tuesday night’s game winning the first two games 30-19 and 30-20. The Lady Owls led throughout the entirety of both games, and didn’t relinquish a lead until the beginning of the 3rd game which seems to be the achilles heal of the Lady Owls this year. The Owls would trail throughout the entire match, until they reclaimed the lead at 28-27. Despite reclaiming the lead the Lady Owls couldn’t hold on and lost the 3rd game 29-31. They turned the burners back on in the 4th and final game, however and cruised to victory with a 30-17 win.
Leading the way for the Lady Owls was non other than Kelly Fink who recorded 30 kills on .421 kill percentage. Lucero Vargas was second on the team with 15 kills. Janelle Martinez was excellent in her return to the setter role recording 42 assists, while Vargas was all over the floor recording 15 digs good enough for the team and game high. Vargas also proved to be a monster on the net recording 2 solo blocks and 3 assist blocks. As a whole the team hit a respectable .360 on their kill percentage.
With the win the Lady Owls improve to 11-1 and 4-0 in conference play. Next up for the Lady Owls will be the 3rd game of their home-stand on Friday as they host Santa Monica for a 7:00 pm start-time.
