After finishing up last week with a win in Fullerton and an impressive run through the Santa Ana Volleyball Tournament the Citrus College Volleyball team continued to gain momentum as they dispatched of Cypress College (2-4) in straight sets.
The Owls stumbled out of the gate, getting behind early in the first set. The Chargers stormed out of the gate getting up by as much as 6 at 10-16. The Owls began to turn the tables however, drawing even at 19 off Kelly Fink ace. The score went back and forth until at 20 all a Lucero Vargas kill put the Owls up by 2. From there they never looked back winning the game 30-24.
In the second set the score bounced back and forth until at 14-14 Lauren Bjorklund got a kill to put the Owls up by 1. After that they never trailed again going on to win 30-20, rattling off 6 consecutive points towards the tail end of the game.
The 3rd featured much of the same. The Owls came charging out of the gate this time, jumping to a 6-2 lead. Cypress battled back though tying the score at 8 all. Citrus once again had an impressive run getting up by as much as 8 points at 19-11. At 23-13 Kelly Fink began to put the game away with 5 straigh points off her serves including 3 aces in a row. In the end of the 3rd the Owls stood on top with a 30-22 victory.
In the win Fink, led all Owls with 21 kills. Jennifer Washington had one of her most impressive games of the year with 4 blocks (2 solo, 4 assisted), 8 kills, and 5 digs. Janelle Martinez was setting up all Owls with 31 assists.
With the win the Owls improve to 4-1 on the season. Next up for the Lady Owls is Irvine Valley who comes to meet up with the Lady Owls at the Owl’s Nest for a 6:00 pm match-up.
