Glendora, CA(Volleyball) – With the departure of Tammy Knott-Silva, Shin Jung has been named the new head coach of the Citrus College Volleyball program. Jung has been an assistant with Citrus for over 20 years, and steps into the head job for the first time in his career.
“Shin is an incredible coach, and an incredible person,” said Dean of Physical Education and Athletics Jody Wise. “I have no doubts that Shin will pick right up where Tammy left off.”
“I’ve been waiting for this opportunity for over 20 years, and now that it is here I am very excited to have this chance,” Jung said.
Jung will have some big shoes to fill, as Citrus is coming off an incredibly successful run with Knott-Silva at the helm. The Lady Owls have qualified for the Southern California Playoffs the past two years, falling just short of the State Playoffs both times. The Lady Owls were also ranked as high as #7 in the state last season.
“I’m not looking to change anything about how the program has been run for the past few years,” Jung said. “I just want to continue the strong volleyball tradition that lives at Citrus College.”
Along with his twenty-plus years of experience at Citrus College, Jung has been a mainstay on the club circuit with over 11 years of club experience. Jung has played a pivotal role with the San Gabriel Volleyball Club where he has been coaching for the past seven years.
“For over 20 years I’ve seen the ins and outs of the business of volleyball, which should be an advantage for me,” Jung said. “Because I’ve learned from so many great coaches before me, I don’t have to start from scratch; I just have to pick up right where they left off.”
The 2006 season came to an end in the 2nd round of the SoCal Playoffs, as the Lady Owls fell to conference rival LA Pierce, the eventual State Runner-Up, in five games. The 2007 season kicks off with a road game at El Camino College on Wednesday September 5th at 5:00 p.m.
