Vargas Named to CCCWVA Scholar Athlete Team 

Sophomore Lucero Vargas Glendora, CA (Volleyball) -- Sophomore outside hitter Lucero Vargas, was named to the 2006 California Community College Women's Volleyball Association Scholar Athlete Team. Vargas is the first Citrus College volleyball player to earn the award since its inception six years ago.

"Lucero is not only hard working on the court, but also in the classroom," head volleyball coach Tammy Knott said. "She puts a lot of demands on herself and that is why she is such an inspiration to all students and student-athletes. She is living proof that you can have the best of both worlds."

Vargas, who will transfer Cal Poly Pomona in the fall, was part of a dynamic duo, teaming with All-State Kelly Fink to help lead the Lady Owls to a 19-4 overall record, 11-2 conference record, and number 7 ranking in the state of California. Vargas recorded 235 kills and 178 digs during the 2006 season, and had an impressive kill percentage of .346 during the Lady Owls season and venture into the second round of the SoCal COA playoffs. All the while Vargas maintained 3.97 GPA.

"Lucero has been a pleasure to coach and she will be greatly missed." Knott said. "She is one of a kind."
