
Glendora, CA (Volleyball) -- After two standout seasons with the Citrus College Fighting Owls volleyball team, sophomore setter Janelle Martinez has chosen to continue here career at Bacone College in Muskogee, Oklahoma.
“Bacone is a campus that has people that have come from all over, and it’s going to provide me with a great opportunity to expand my horizons,” Martinez said. “I’m really excited about putting on a jersey of a four-year university. It’s been a goal all of my life, and it’s finally becoming a reality.”
Martinez was a 2nd team All-Western State Conference selection as both a freshman and a sophomore for Citrus College. Along with her all-conference honors, Martinez will leave Citrus as one of the all-time leaders in assists. During the 2007 season alone, Martinez recorded 535 assists, and averaged 8.79 assists per game.
Martinez will take her considerable setting talents to Bacone which competes in the NAIA, and will play a pivotal role in trying to help turn around program that went 4-19 overall and 2-7 in conference play.
“Janelle was a great addition to our program. She has shown leadership and perseverance throughout her career here at Citrus College,” said Citrus College Head Volleyball Coach Shin Jung. “There is no one like her and I hope that in the near future her accomplishments will be met by another great player.”
