Glendora, CA (Volleyball) -- The Citrus College volleyball team were the queens of the volleyball court on Tuesday night. The Lady Owls recorded a season high 20 service aces, including a modern day school record 12 by sophomore Mackenzie Pike, in their three set sweep of West Los Angeles College.

Citrus would make quick work of the Oilers, sprinting out to a 20-8 lead in the first game. The Lady Owls would get three kills by freshman Daisy Llamas in the final seven points of the game, taking the first frame 25-12.
Things continued to go Citrus’ way in the second game, when Pike really got on a role scoring four aces in five straight points, as the Lady Owls got out to a 12-3 lead. Citrus clung on to their lead taking the second set 25-12 on nothing less than another Pike ace.
After running out to another big lead in the third set, West LA began to battle back. Trailing 12-2 the Oilers went on a 14-6 run pulling to within striking distance of the Lady Owls at 18-16. Facing their first real test of the night, Citrus got back to back kills from freshman Victoria Praeger as they went on to win the third and final game 25-20.
In the win Citrus was led by Llamas who slammed home a game high 10 kills. Freshman Britni Dearden had her second best three game match of the season with a game high 28 kills, while Pike recorded a game high 15 digs.
With the win, Citrus improves to 5-14 overall and 3-5 in Western State Conference play, while West LA falls to 0-12 overall and 0-7 in conference play. With just four games left on their 2008 conference schedule, Citrus will hit the road for their next two contests, starting with a match-up at Glendale College on Friday. Citrus took the first meeting between the two teams in four sets earlier in the year. Game time is set for 7:00 PM.
