Renegades Rip Lady Owls in Three

Glendora, CA (Volleyball) -- The Citrus College volleyball team opened up their 2008 Western State Conference South slate with a tough task at hand in the form of the states 20th ranked Bakersfield College. The Renegades proved why they are ranked, as they swept Citrus in straight sets, 20-25, 21-25, 14-25.

While Bakersfield ran away with the third set, Citrus did keep things close in the first two frames, even taking an early 11-10 lead to open up the match after sophomre Becca Dean drove home a kill early on. The Lady Owls weren't able to hold on to it however, as Bakersfield scored 8 of the next 10 points to jump out to an insourmountable 18-13 lead.

Things would look bleak as Citrus opened up the second set trailing 10-4. The Lady Owls showed some heart though, battling back and eventually taking the lead at 20-19 after another Dean kill. The Renegades then put Citrus away for good by scoring six nearly unanswered points to take the second set and all of Citrus' momentum.

In the loss, Citrus was led by Dean who tied with Natalie Bailey for the team lead with 8 kills. Freshman setter Britni Dearden added 30 assists, and sophomore libero Mackenzie Pike kept up her torrid digging pace with 26 more on Tuesday.

With the loss Citrus falls to 2-10 overall and 0-1 in WSC South play. The Lady Owls will try and pick themselves back up this Friday as they travel to Culver City, CA to take on West LA College. Game time is set for 7:00 PM.
