Glendora, CA (Volleyball) -- The Citrus College volleyball team suffered its third straight loss to the open the season on Tuesday night when they were swept by Antelope Valley College 19-25, 19-25, and 14-25. The Lady Owls committed a season high 25 attack errors in the set back.
Citrus hung tough with the Marauders early on; with neither team taking more than a two point lead until deep into the first set. With the game tied up at 16-16 Antelope Valley rattled off three straight two of which came off back to back Citrus attack errors. With their largest lead of the set AVC cruised to a game one victory.
Much of the same transpired in the second game with both teams knotted up at 15. That’s when the Marauders went on another run this time scoring 10 of the final 14 points over which time the Fighting Owls committed four attack errors. Deflated, Citrus limped to the end of the third game which AVC took easily 25-14.
In the loss, Citrus was led by Lindsey Mitchell who recorded a match high 10 kills, but did struggle a bit, with a season high nine errors. Sophomore Daisy Llamas finished just behind Mitchell with seven kills and two blocks.
The road won’t be getting any easier for Citrus as they travel to take on Orange Coast College on Friday evening. The Pirates were a State Finalist last year, and are off to a 2-0 start so far this 2009 season. The match is set for a 6:00 PM start.
