Mitchell Powers Citrus Past Hancock

Glendora, CA (Volleyball) -- Freshman Lindsey Mitchell recorded a season high 20 kills, the most by a Lady Owl since November 6th 2007, and the Citrus College volleyball team picked up its second win in as many games on Tuesday night in a three set sweep of Allan Hancock.

The Bulldogs would stay even with Citrus throughout the first set. The Fighting Owls took an early 10-8 lead following one of Mitchell’s kills, but Allan Hancock didn’t back down eventually grabbing the lead after an attack error by sophomore Victoria Praeger made the score 17-15 in favor of the Bulldogs.

Facing their first deficit of the night, Citrus battled scoring 10 of the final 16 points to take a 25-23 win in the first set. Game number one was closed out in emphatic fashion thanks to an assisted block from Coco Holliday and Danica Lawrence.

In the second set, Citrus turned on the afterburners, scoring the first eight points of the game thanks in large part to a pair of kills from both Mitchell and sophomore Daisy Llamas. Hancock would never really make it close, as the Lady Owls closed the second set out with a Mitchell kill and a 25-11 victory.

Things continued to go Citrus’ way in the third set as they took a four point lead after yet another Mitchell kill made the score 13-9. The Bulldogs would never be able to get any closer than that as the Fighting Owls closed the match out with a 25-20 win.

Freshman Lauren Walsh had her second consecutive 30 plus assist game with 36 assists, and Tatiana Quiocho also had her second straight strong game with 25 digs.

With the win, Citrus improves to 2-5 while Allan Hancock falls to 2-5. The Fighting Owls will take the rest of the week off, before starting Western State Conference South Division play next Tuesday with a trip to Santa Monica College. Game time is set for 7:00 PM.
