Same Old StoryGlendora, CA (Volleyball) -- Tuesday night’s match-up with #22 Canyons College was no different than any other match for the Lady Owls this season. It was the same old story. Citrus hung around with the Cougars, but never could quite get enough momentum to take down Canyons as they were swept in straight sets. Negative ReactionGlendora, CA (Volleyball) -- The Citrus College volleyball team had their worst hitting game of the season on Thursday evening. The Lady Owls posted a -.026 percent the worst kill percentage of the season for Citrus in a three set loss to Glendale College 25-17, 25-16, and 25-19. A Game of InchesGlendora, CA (Volleyball) -- It's been said of baseball and football that they are games of inches. That adage could also be applied to volleyball. The best example of that was in Citrus’ three set loss to Bakersfield on Friday night. All it was, was a few inches that separated Citrus from possibly upsetting the first place team in conference, instead the inches led to a wide chasm as the Lady Owls were swept in straight sets. Danica DominatesGlendora, CA (Volleyball) -- Citrus freshman Danica Lawrence recorded a game and season (for three sets) 13 kills, and posted a dominating .476 kill percentage in leading Citrus in a three set sweep over visiting Santa Monica College on Friday evening. Digging A HoleGlendora, CA (Volleyball) -- Needing a win to propel them to a strong finish in the second half of conference play, the Citrus College Volleyball team struggled on Tuesday night getting swept by LA Pierce 20-25, 14-25, and 23-25. The Lady Owls committed a season high seven reception errors, and never really contended in the three set sweep. Back on TrackGlendora, CA (Volleyball) -- After losing back to back matches against ranked teams in the State the Citrus College Volleyball team got things back on track on Friday night with a three set sweep over West Los Angeles College. The Lady Owls combined to post a .452 kill percentage, their best mark of the season, in the win. Citrus Volleyball to Host “Dig for the Cure”Glendora, CA (Volleyball) -- On Friday night October 16th, the Citrus College Volleyball team will be hosting their “Dig for the Cure” night during their Western State Conference match with West Los Angeles College. The Lady Owls will be raising funds and awareness as October serves as Breast Cancer Awareness month. Mitchell Powers Citrus Past HancockGlendora, CA (Volleyball) -- Freshman Lindsey Mitchell recorded a season high 20 kills, the most by a Lady Owl since November 6th 2007, and the Citrus College volleyball team picked up its second win in as many games on Tuesday night in a three set sweep of Allan Hancock. Still Haven’t Found What They’re Looking ForGlendora, CA (Volleyball) -- When the band U2 wrote their 1987 seminal hit “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For,” they were searching for something with a deeper meaning of life. While the Citrus College Volleyball team isn’t quite at that point, there may be no more appropriate theme song for the team as they suffered their fifth straight loss to open up the year on Tuesday evening, and find themselves still searching for a win in the 2009 season. Errors Are Downfall For CitrusGlendora, CA (Volleyball) -- The Citrus College volleyball team suffered its third straight loss to the open the season on Tuesday night when they were swept by Antelope Valley College 19-25, 19-25, and 14-25. The Lady Owls committed a season high 25 attack errors in the set back. Growing PainsGlendora, CA (Volleyball) -- With nine new faces dotting the Citrus College Volleyball roster and five in the starting line-up, it’s been a given that there might be some growing pains along this 2009 journey. Some of those pains were very evident on Friday night as Citrus was swept in three sets by back to back CCCAA State Champion qualifier Fullerton College. Pike Digs San Francisco StateGlendora, CA (Volleyball) -- Citrus College sophomore Mackenzie Pike will continue her playing career with NCAA Division II San Francisco State next year. Pike, who was third in the state this past season with a 6.55 digs per game average, was a 1st team All-WSC selection and will leave Citrus as one of the all-time leaders in digs.
