Glendora, CA - Citrus College announced on Wednesday that Assistant Coach Eric Anderson has been tabbed as the new Head Coach for the women’s basketball team. Anderson has spent the past four seasons as the top assistant with the Lady Owls and also spent two seasons as the head coach for the men’s basketball program.
Dean of Physical Education and Director of Athletics Jody Wise said, “We are excited to have Eric become a part of our coaching staff. He brings a great deal of experience and enthusiasm to our program. We are very lucky to hire someone who is familiar with the program and with Citrus Athletics and we look forward to him stepping in and continuing to move our basketball program forward.”
Anderson has been coaching basketball at the high school and college levels for nearly 20 years. A three-time Coach of the Year at Garey High School in the late 1980’s, Anderson led that team to three conference championships. He went on to claim a league championship as the head boys basketball coach at Pomona High in 1996 and also earned Coach of the Year honors that season.
Coach Anderson came to Citrus College in 1996, joining the men’s basketball coaching staff as an assistant. In his first year the team went 22-11 and advanced to the second-round of the state regional playoffs. Anderson assumed the head coaching job the next year.
Coach Anderson said, “Your greatest success comes from your belief in yourself and what you can do for others. I look forward to serving the women’s basketball players here at Citrus.
Anderson was also a highly decorated player, earning Freshman All-America honors in both basketball and baseball at McCalester College, where he earned his B.A. in History. He went on to become a tenth-round selection of the Cleveland Cavaliers in 1975.
Anderson will assume coaching duties effective immediately.
