Hot Shots 

Culver City, CA (Women’s Basketball) – The Citrus College women’s basketball team got just their second win in conference and fifth win of the year, as they finally found some love on Valentines night with a 67-57 victory. The Lady Owls used a blistering 50.8% clip for the field to jump start their win.

Sophomore Jenny SrikThe Lady Owls started things off on the wrong foot, missing 8 of their first 9 shots, and falling behind 11-2 in the first 7 minutes. Things started to turn around however as Jenny Sirk nailed one of her 4 first half three’s from way downtown to kick start the Lady Owl offense. The Lady Owls then went on a 24-4 run over the next 7 minutes to take a 9 point lead. West LA battled back to within 3, but the Lady Owls pulled ahead again making the final three buckets of the 1st half to take a 31-21 lead into half-time.

In that 1st half the Lady Owls shot a scorching 44.8% from the floor and 44.4% from beyond the 3-point arc. Jenny Sirk has a game high 14 points on 5 of 7 shooting in the first half, while Alex Arreola pitched in 9 going 4 for 7 from the field. The Lady Owls also held the Lady Oilers to just 24.2% shooting from the field and 8.3% shooting from beyond the 3-point arc.

The 2nd half continued to shine favorably upon the Lady Owls as they shot a blistering 56.7% from the field. The Lady Owls held off numerous West LA advances, as the Lady Oilers shot a much improved 40.6% from the field and 37.5% from the 3-point line, but Citrus kept them at bay with a 67-57 victory.

In the win the Lady Owls were led by Alex Arreola who had a team and season high 16 points on 7 of 15 shooting. JaTon Parham and Jenny Sirk each chipped in with 14 points, while Shatonn Harris rounded out the Citrus top scorers with 12 points and a team high 7 rebounds.

With the win the Lady Owls improve to 5-23 on the season and 2-11 in conference play. The Lady Owls will finish out their season at home, as they play host to Santa Monica on Saturday evening. Tip-off is at 7:30 pm.
