Santa Clarita, CA (Women’s Basketball) – Coming into their match-up with the conference leading Lady Cougars of College of the Canyons, the Lady Owls knew they had an uphill battle to climb. The hill proved to steep for Citrus to spread their wings as they fell 90-45 Saturday night.
The Lady Owls kept it close through the first part of the 1st half, but with the Lady Cougars shooting at a blistering pace, Citrus couldn’t keep up. The Lady Owls fell behind 23-56 at half-time after seeing Canyons shooting 61.8% from the field and 71.4% from beyond the 3-point arc.
The 2nd half didn’t bode much better for the Lady Owls as Canyons continued to build their lead. The Lady Owls did slow them down a bit however, only allowing them to score 34 points in the 2nd half. Still Canyons’ hot shooting continued as they hit 46.4% of their shots form the field and 47.1% of their shots from beyond the 3-point arc.
In the loss, JaTon Parham led all Lady Owls with 16 points and 9 rebounds. Alex Areeola chipped in with 9 boards while Shatonn Harris contributed another solid all-around effort with 13 points, 5 rebounds and a team high 3 assists. As a team the Lady Owls struggled shooting 27.3% from the field and 30.0% from beyond the 3-point arc.
With the loss the Lady Owls fall to 4-21 on the season and 1-7 in conference play. The Lady Owls have another tough team on their hands as they play host to Glendale College Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. The Lady Owls lost earlier in the year 37-79 at Glendale.
