Los Angeles, CA (Women’s Basketball) -- Having spent the entire first two months of the season on the road, the Citrus College Women’s Basketball team to continued to play away from the friendly confines of The Owl’s Nest when they traveled to take on LA Southwest Friday evening. The Lady Owls struggled yet again and fell 52-66.
Citrus would take an early 19-10 lead in Friday’s contest, but a big run by Southwest over the final two minutes of the half put the Lady Owls in a 33-26 hole at the break. The Lady Owls would battle drawing to with in four in the second half, but Citrus stumbled at the free-throw line, and Southwest took advantage cruising to a 14 point victory.
Freshman Briana Barfield led all Lady Owls with 17 points, while sophomore Bianca Nunez chipped in with 16 in the loss. The Lady Owls will finish up their 2009 pre-conference schedule in a week when they travel South to take part in the Grossmont Tournament. Citrus will open up the tournament with Lethridge, a school from Canada. Tip-off is set for 3:00 PM on Monday December 28th.
