Glendora, CA (Women’s Basketball) -- The Citrus College women’s basketball team forced visiting Mira Costa College into 35 turnovers, and turned it into 33 points, as the Lady Owls cruised to a 65-47 victory on Saturday night.

NievesBoth teams would keep the game close in the first half, which featured six lead changes alone. Citrus would grab the first lead of the game after they opened up the contest with a lay-up by sophomore Shateah West and a jump shot in the lane by freshman Krystyn Jacobs, but Mira Costa would quickly take it back thanks to a trey by Tiffany Hunter.

The game would proceed like that for most of the first half, until Citrus grabbed the lead for good after back to back fast break lay-ups by sophomores Jessica Nieves and Jazmine Matthews gave the Lady Owls a two point lead with 7:34 to play. From there Citrus would never trail, leading by as much as seven points before settling in for a six point lead at the half.

In the second half, Citrus really began to turn up the heat defensively, forcing back to back turnovers and pushing their lead to 10 points after a lay-up and free-throw by Krystyn Jacobs. The Spartans would crawl their way back to within a point of the Citrus lead after a fast break lay-up by Tucker, but Citrus went on a 14-0 run capped off by another fast break lay-up by Matthews that pretty much put the game away for good.

Matthews would fill up the stat sheet for the Lady Owls with 11 points, 5 rebounds, 5 steals, and 5 steals. For Mira Costa, Tucker would finish with a game high 17 points and 16 rebounds.
