Woodland Hills, CA (Women’s Basketball) -- After picking up a 91-52 win over Cerro Coso in the first round of the LA Pierce Tournament, and a 68-65 win over LA Pierce in the second, the Citrus College women’s basketball team faced Rio Hondo College in the Championship Game on Sunday night. The Lady Owls fought tooth and nail with the Road Runners, but came up just empty losing 91-99 in overtime.
In the loss, Citrus was led by sophomore’s Terri Washington and Jessica Nieves. Washington scored a game high 25 points, while Nieves added 22, including four in the overtime period. Sophomore Jazmine Matthews poured in 12 points, and was named to the All-Tournament team for her efforts.
With the loss, Citrus’ record falls to 5-2 overall. The Lady Owls will take the next couple of days off, before heading up the coast to participate in the Cuesta College tournament Thursday through Saturday. Citrus will open up the tournament against the state’s 8th ranked team Orange Coast College on Thursday. Tip-off is set for 3:30 PM.
