    Dynamic Duo

    Saturday, January 09, 2010

Glendora, CA (Women’s Basketball) -- Sophomore Bianca Nunez poured in 21 points, and freshman Briana Barfield scored 20 as the dynamic duo accounted for nearly 60% of the Lady Owls’ scoring in their 67-50 win over visiting LA Valley College on Saturday night.

It took awhile for the Lady Owls to get warmed up, but once they did, they blew the Monarchs out of the water. Both teams traded the lead back and forth in the opening minutes, and the game was tied up at six points apiece with 14:57 to go in the first half.

That’s when the Lady Owls turned it on going on a 20-2 run bookended by free-throws from Jasmyne Randolph and Briana Barfield that made the score 26-8 with just under 10 minutes to go. Valley would cut the lead down to 14 points at the break, but they never really got back into the game.

Citrus’ lead would grow to as large as 27 points after a fast break lay-up by Bianca Nunez late in the game, but Valley would score the final 10 points of the contest as Citrus settled for a 17 point victory. With the win, Citrus improves to 10-8 overall and 2-0 in conference play, while the Monarchs fall to 3-12 overall and 0-2 in conference games.

The Lady Owls will hit the road next Wednesday for a conference match-up at Santa Monica College. Tip-off is set for 5:00 PM.
