Bakersfield, CA (Women’s Basketball) -- The Citrus College Women’s Basketball team kicked off the 2010 WSC South schedule on a strong note Wednesday evening with an impressive 67-48 win at Bakersfield College. The Lady Owls were keyed by a strong defensive effort keyed by freshman Christina Kinney who swiped a season high seven steals in the win.
Kinney put together what was arguably her best game of the year on Wednesday night. Kinney fell just three steals away from a triple-double as she added 10 points and 10 boards to go along with her seven steals. Sophomore Bianca Nunez led all scorers in the win with 19 points, while freshman Brian Barfield added 18 points and seven rebounds.
With the win, Citrus improves to 9-8 overall and 1-0 in Western State Conference South play, while Bakersfield falls to 5-9 overall and 0-1 in WSC South games. The Lady Owls will play their very first home contest of the season this Saturday as they play host to LA Valley College (3-10). Tip-off is set for 5:00 PM.
