Bakersfield, CA (Women’s Golf) – When the 2006 women’s golf season began, the Citrus College team that was assembled was one that reflected youth and inexperience. Their whole purpose and goal was to be competitive and to improve with each and every
outing. On a team in which no girl had prior golf playing experience, their maturation was a bit bumpy, but in the end they all improved and proved to be a competitive bunch that never gave up.
Their season came to an end yesterday as they traveled to Bakersfield, CA to take part in the WSC Championships that was held at The Links in Riverlakes Ranch. Jill Caldwell did what she did all year long, in leading the Lady Owl’s in the clubhouse shooting a 96 and 92. Caldwell ended her season with the best overall score among the Lady Owl’s.
Two other girls Vanessa Smith and Patty Beard continued their battle with the game, as neither had ever picked up a club prior to playing with Citrus. Their continued growth and improvement continued to show as there stroke count continued to fall. Smith finished her season shooting a 134 and 138, while Beard season came to a close with a 136 and 139. Both girls proved that they have what it took to be a Lady Owl never giving up, and working on their game every day.
When the scores were totaled the Lady Owl’s found themselves in 4th place. While they will not qualify for the SoCal Championships, they take with them the fact that they grew and matured as the season went along.
