Lady Owls Continue Historic Season With Win 

Glendora, CA (Women’s Soccer) – The Citrus College Women’s soccer team continues to have one of their best seasons in recent history as they got their 7th win of the season today defeating WSC member College of the Canyons 3-2.

jenaeThe first half turned out to be a bit of a barn burner with each school scoring 2 goals within 15 minutes of each other. The first goal of the day came in the 26th minute when Marsi Quezada rifled a shot from the 30 yard line and found the back of the net. Canyons would retaliate 5 minutes later when in the 31st minute Jessica Torres struck pay-dirt putting the score at 1-1. With the Owls charging into Cougar territory Jenae Brown put the Owls ahead 2-1 when she fired a shot towards the goal. The ball would bounce off of the midsection of a Cougar player and roll into the back of the net. Samantha Chalmers would even the score with only 3 minutes left in the half tying the game up at 2-2 where it would stay until late in the 2nd half.

The 2nd half would be see both teams fighting for control of the ball, but neither with much of an opportunity to score. Canyons would only get off one shot on goal in the 2nd half, and was never able to get much closer to that. With the clock inching closer to 90 minutes it looked as if both teams may find themselves with a stalemate until the 85th minute rolled around. Owls season goal leader Kelli Johnston received a pass at her waist with two defenders behind her. Johnston moved the ball forward bouncing it off her knee and drawing the goalie out towards her. With no one between her and the net, but the goalie, Johnston kicked the ball to the left out of the reach of Thannie Huerta and put the Owls up for good with a 3-2 victory.

In the win the Owls out-shot COC 16-9. With the win the Owls improve to 7-5-4 on the season and 3-4-3 in conference play. The Owls will continue their conference schedule next week as they travel to take on 1st place LA Pierce on Tuesday October 24th for a 4:00 pm match-up.
