Glendora, CA (Women’s Soccer) – When historians look back on the 2007 Citrus College women’s soccer team, they will find a team which jump started a bunch of first for the Citrus program. The 2007 season saw the Citrus College women’s soccer team earn it’s first ever double-digit win season, and its first six game winning streak.
Along with those firsts, hopefully one will be their first ever playoff bid. While the Lady Owls are a long shot, they bolstered their resume on Friday night with a 3-0 win over Santa Monica College, its ninth win in their last ten games.
The Lady Owls wasted no time in jumping out to a lead, when they scored their first goal of the game thanks in part to a little bit of luck in the 13th minute. With only a defender and the goalie to beat, Kourtney Mount took a shot that bounced off the goalies hands, off the Corsair defender, and in to the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.
While Santa Monica helped the Lady Owls out on the first goal, they didn’t need any help on the next two. In the 23rd minute Trisha Eyer struck gold making a sliding shot roll past the goalie and into the net off a Mari Montalvo pass.
Fifteen minutes later, the Lady Owls were golden again, as Suzy Ruckel finished off her sophomore season with a spinning goal that hit nothing but the back of the net to put the Lady Owls up for good 3-0.
In the win the Lady Owls out-shot the Corsairs 16-8, and earned five corner kicks to Santa Monica’s one. With the win, the Lady Owls improve to 15-4-3 overall and 9-4-3 in WSC play. With its best ever season on record, the Lady Owls will find out their post-season fate this weekend. Stay tuned to the Citrus College web page for the latest news.
