Glendora, CA (Women’s Soccer) – The Citrus College Lady Owl’s suffered their first home loss of the season as LA Pierce took it to the Owls with a 0-3 loss. The loss is only the second of the season for Citrus, but it is the fourth game in a row in which the Lady Owls have failed to record a win, after starting the season off with six straight victories.
The Lady Owl’s found themselves on their heels to begin the game, as the Brahma’s out-shot Citrus 11-5 in the first 45 minutes. Two of those shots proved to be lethal, as Pierce’s Yasmine Yahoum flicked the ball over goalie Kim Breazeal’s head and into the back of the net for the first score of the game in the 24th minute. Just over ten minutes later the Brahma’s struck again Lindsey Liggera scored on a rebound to give Pierce a 2-0 advantage at the half.
In the second half, the Lady Owl’s were able to produce a few chances, but never really had a good look at the goal, due in part to the stifling defense of Pierce. Of Citrus’ 11 shots in the game, only four of those shots were recorded as shots on goal. The Lady Owl’s did manage to get four corner kicks, but nothing come of it, as Pierce recorded the shut-out their seventh in eleven games. The Brahma’s finally put things away in the 81st minute when Rebecca Mendez put Pierce up for good with a 3-0 win.
With the loss, the Lady Owl’s fall to 6-2-2 overall and 1-2-2 in Western State Conference play. Citrus has yet another tough conference foe coming their way, as they play host to Canyons College on Tuesday October 2nd. Game time is set for 5:00 PM.
