Not Enough Firepower For Lady Owls

Glendora, CA (Women's Soccer) -- The Citrus College Lady Owls couldn't muster enough firepower against visiting Glendale College in their Western State Conference opener on Tuesday night. Citrus was out-shot 18-8 in their 1-2 loss to the Vaqueros.

Diana CostelloAlthough Glendale dominated the pitch for most of the game, it would take the Vaqueros until the 37th minute to get on the board. Glendale's Lilia Siles scored the games first goal when she gave the Vaqueros a 1-0 lead with her strike with 13 minutes left in the first half. Glendale controlled the first half so much, that they recorded 10 shots to Citrus' two.

Despite being on their heels for most of the first half, Citrus rallied in the second mustering six shots to Glendale's eight. Citrus would even tie the game up in the 57th minute when freshman Diana Costello beat her defender and then shot the ball past the Glendale goalie to tie the game up at one a piece.

Hanging onto their 1-1 tie Citrus continued to press the issue on offense earning two corning kicks to Glendale's one in the second half. Although they picked up their pace in the second, the Lady Owls found themselves in a hole once again, when Catalina Uneyo gave the Vaqueros a 2-1 advantage in the 78th minute.

Citrus would have a few more chances to tie the game back up in the final minutes, including a beautiful free-kick taken by sophomore Priscilla Munoz that was barely saved by the fingertips of goalie Monica Rosales that preserved the Glendale win.

With the loss Citrus falls to 4-5-2 overall and 0-1 in WSC play, while Glendale improves to 5-2-2 and 1-0 in conference play. Citrus will continue their conference schedule on Friday as they travel to LA Pierce for a 4:00 PM match-up.
