Glendora, CA (Women’s Soccer) -- The Citrus College Women’s Soccer team suffered a setback in their 2010 playoff hopes when the Canyons College Cougars shut down the Lady Owls offensively, in a 1-0 loss. Citrus fired off just one shot in the first half and had just one shot on frame the entire contest as they lost their first home game of the year.
Canyons would take the lead in the first half when Beth Barker scored from 25 yards out when Citrus tried to clear out the ball. The Lady Owls would struggle offensively throughout, but things were better in the second half. Citrus recorded five shots to Canyons four in the second half, but the Lady Owls were never able to really get anything going.
Citrus would earn six corners, including five in the second half alone. Citrus’ best chance in the second half would come off a corner kick late in the game that freshman Kelsey Tucker sent towards the box. Citrus had four open looks at the goal off that corner, but the Lady Owls were never able to put a foot on it as they suffered their first defeat in Citrus Stadium.
With the loss, Citrus falls to 9-4-5 on the year and 5-3-3 in WSC South play, while Canyons improve 9-6-2 overall and 6-5 in conference games. The Lady Owls have another big test on Friday afternoon when they travel North to take on Bakersfield College. If Citrus is to have any shot at the post season, Friday is a must win game. Kick-off is set for 4:00 PM.
