Moorpark, CA (Women’s Soccer) -- The Citrus College Women’s Soccer team got an early test on Friday afternoon. The Lady Owls found themselves trailing 2-1 at the break in Moorpark and responded in a big way. Citrus came back with two goals in the second half, and picked up an important early 3-2 victory.
Despite the hole they were in at the break, Citrus scored first in Friday’s contest. Freshman Jade Vehawn notched her second goal of the year in just the second minute of the contest off a Kelsey Tucker assist. That would be all the offense Citrus would get in the first half though, as the Raiders responded with goals in the 10th and 23rd minutes to take that goal lead into the half.
In the second, Citrus rallied. Freshman Kelli Millakovich grabbed her second score of the season in the 63rd minute off a Vehawn assist. 11 minutes later, Citrus wrested the lead back when sophomore Angela Castellanos got her third of the year in the 74th minute off another Vehawn assist.
With the win, Citrus improves to 2-1 early on this season. The Lady Owls return to play next week with a pair of home contests. The home opener comes on Tuesday when Citrus hosts Oxnard College at 7:00 PM.
