Glendora, CA (Women’s Soccer) -- In a tightly contested Western State Conference South Division match-up with visiting LA Valley College, the Citrus College Women’s Soccer team came up with the short end of the stick on Tuesday afternoon.
With the game tied up until the 89th minute, the Monarchs drew a penalty kick that Carolina Martinez stepped up and kicked past the outstretched arms of Laura Guzman for the game winner.
The game was evenly played throughout with Valley recording 14 shots to Citrus’ 11. Citrus did struggle in the Monarch’s half of the field getting whistled for 10 offsides, compared to one offsides call for Valley.
Citrus would be the first team to strike in Tuesday’s game, when Nicole Saucedo got the ball into the Valley net off a rebound. Unfortunately for the Lady Owls Valley would answer back less than a minute later when Martinez recorded her first goal of the outing.
With the loss, Citrus falls to 3-8-3 overall and 1-5-1 in WSC South Division play, while Valley improved to 5-5-1 overall and 1-3-4 in conference play. Citrus will try and bounce back from Tuesday’s disappointing finish as they play host Santa Monica College on Friday afternoon. Game time is set for 3:00 PM.
