    Moral Victory

Glendora, CA (Women’s Soccer) -- When the Citrus College women’s soccer team first faced #6 Santa Monica back on September 29, it wasn’t pretty, as the Lady Owls were sent back home with their worst loss of the season 6-0. On Friday, the Corsairs came calling again, and while the Lady Owls were handed another defeat, this time Citrus played Santa Monica tough in a 1-0 loss.

In the first half, Citrus took it to the Corsairs out-shooting Santa Monica 7-4. Citrus had more than a few opportunities, but nothing ever came of it. Unfortunately for Citrus, Santa Monica had quite the opposite effect as the Corsairs made good on their best opportunity of the game.

In the 33rd minute, Santa Monica’s Kelsea Rock passed the ball to Xochitl Salgado who sat atop the Citrus goal box. Salgado wound up and drilled the ball into the goal giving, Santa Monica the lone score of the game.

In the second half it would be much of the same with Santa Monica and Citrus trading offensive blows. Freshman Goal Keeper Laura Guzman would be solid in goal recording five saves in the loss.

With the loss, Citrus falls to 3-8-3 overall and 1-5-1 in conference play, while Santa Monica improves to 8-2-5 overall and 5-1-2 in WSC games. The Lady Owls will finish their current three game home stand Tuesday when they play host to Glendale College. Game time is set for 6:00 PM.
