Santa Monica, CA (Women’s Water Polo) – Records fell on Wednesday, in Citrus College’s road win over Santa Monica. The Lady Owls cruised past SMC 19-4, while Heather Curtis broke the single season saves record and the single games saves record all in one fell swoop.
Bolstered by the strong play of Curtis, the Owls were led in scoring by Janet Pezold who scored 7 goals and chipped in with 3 assists and 1 steal. Ivonne Garcia displayed an all-around game, scoring 5 goals to go along with 4 assists and 3 steals. Stephanie Emery also scored five times, and Christie Forster notched 2.
The real story of the game however was the play of Curtis. Curtis has dominated throughout Western States Conference play not only leading the conference in saves, but also the state in saves as well. Curtis has had a stellar season breaking the single season previous single season record of 257 with 268 saves thus far on the season. Not only did Curtis break the single season record for Citrus College, but she took it one step further breaking the single game record with 21 saves in one game. The previous record for Citrus was 20.
With the win the Lady Owls improve to 10-8 overall and 1-2 in conference play. The Lady Owls still have two regular season contests left this week as they travel to Pasadena for the Pasadena Mini-Tournament on Friday.
