The 2006 Citrus College Women’s Water Polo team began their 2006 campaign with a bang, when they went 2-0 at the El Camino Water Polo Tournament this past weekend. The Owls dominated both matches beating El Camino 23-7 and then taking care of LA Trade Tech 18-4.

In the wins Stephanie Emery led the way with 15 goals and 2 assists. Ivonne Garcia was spectacular on the day recording 14 goals, chipping in with 13 assists, and getting 10 steals. Garcia was also remarkably accurate with her shots, connecting on 82% of her shot attempts. Also coming home with a stellar day was Janet Pezold who had 12 steals, 12 assists, and 8 goals.

Despite the explosiveness of the Lady Owl’s offense their defensive was as equally impressive. Throughout the day their opponents were able to garner 7 six on five advantages, but Citrus’ defense was so impressive that they didn’t allow any goals in those times. Goalie Heather Curtis registered 33 blocks on the day including a 57% blocking percentage.

With the wins the Lady Owls improve to 2-0. Next up for Citrus is a home WSC match-up vs Ventura on Wednesday September 27, 2006 at 4:00 pm.
