Glendora, CA (Women’s Water Polo) – In his first home game as head coach of the Citrus College women’s water polo squad, Tim Kyle, earned a win, as his Lady Owl’s dominated Santa Monica College 22-8 Wednesday afternoon. Jenn Marshall and Crystal Fabela each had a stellar afternoon as they recorded 10 and 9 goals respectively.
The Lady Owl’s came out firing in the 1st quarter out-scoring the Corsair’s 8-2 in the first frame. Both Fabela and Marshall scored three goals apiece, to jump out to the commanding lead. In the 2nd period, the Lady Owl’s showed just as much fight building upon their lead by out-scoring Santa Monica 4-1, and taking a 21-3 advantage in to halftime.
In the 2nd half, Santa Monica showed a little more offensive fight, scoring three goals in the 3rd quarter, but the Lady Owl’s were just unstoppable topping Santa Monica with seven scores in the third period alone. Citrus closed things out scoring three more in the fourth, and taking away their second win of the season with a 22-8 statement win over Santa Monica.
While Fabela and Marshall were unstoppable scorers, they were as equally unselfish as Fabella notched five assists, and Marshall contributed four assists of her own. Other stand-out players in the game were Christina Okun who had one goal and three assists, and Aubrun Torres who had four assists, and 11 saves in the victory.
With the win the Lady Owl’s improve to 2-1 on the season and 1-0 in WSC play. Citrus heads south this weekend, as they travel to San Diego to participate in the San Diego Mesa Tournament.
