Fabulous Fabela

Glendora, CA (Women’s Water Polo) -- Citrus College sophomore Crystal Fabela scored a game high 8 goals, and sophomore Jennifer Marshall swiped a school record 12 steals in their 12-4 victory over Cuesta College on Tuesday afternoon. It was the first victory over Cuesta for the Lady Owls in recent history, and kept Citrus tied for 1st place in the WSC with LA Valley and Ventura College.

fabelaThe Lady Owls wasted little time in jumping out to an early lead over the Cougars, as Fabela kicked things off with a 5-Meter penalty shot that she easily put away. The Lady Owls would follow that up with a goal from way downtown thanks to sophomore Victoria Geiger, and another goal from Fabela, this time on a break away opportunity and off a Amelia Huss assist. After the first period Citrus had a 3-1 lead.

In the second frame, both teams traded goals as the Lady Owls held a 4-2 lead going into the break. With a renewed energy after half-time, Fabela and company jumped all over the Cougars scoring eight goals over the final two periods (including five in the fourth), all while holding Cuesta to just two goals in the third and fourth quarters. Freshman goalie Amelia Huss more than did her part, recording 11 saves against just 4 goals allowed.

With the win Citrus improves to 10-10 overall and 3-1 in Western State Confernce play, while Cuesta falls to 11-18 overall and 1-3 in WSC games. The Lady Owls have another slate of games schedule on their regular season docket, as they travel up the 210 Freeway to participate in the Pasadena Mini-Tournament this Friday October 31st.
