Grand Marshall

Glendora, CA (Women’s Water Polo) -- Citrus College sophomore and reigning WSC Player of the Year Jenn Marshall, scored a team high three goals and recorded two assists in Citrus’ 9-8 victory over Ventura College on Wednesday afternoon. The win was Citrus’ first over Pirates since 2003.

marshallCitrus wasted little time in jumping all over Ventura, as they scored three straight goals to open up the first quarter, two from sophomore Victoria Geiger and one from Marshall. Ventura would battle back however, scoring the next two points before freshman Brianne Young broke the Pirate streak to give the Owls a 4-2 lead.

From there both teams traded goals with Citrus taking a 5-4 lead into the half. After the break, it would be the Pirates who came out firing as they scored three of the four goals in the third quarter, including two in the final two minutes of the period that gave Ventura a 7-6 lead heading into the fourth frame.

With their backs against the wall, the Lady Owls responded as they opened up the fourth quarter with goals from Young, Marshall, and sophomore Crystal Fabela that gave Citrus back the lead, and ultimately the win.

With the victory Citrus improves to 6-4 overall and 2-0 in Western State Conference play, while Ventura falls to 4-6 and 0-1 in conference. Citrus will try and build on their momentum from this afternoon’s big win, as they travel up the 210 this weekend, to participate in the Pasadena Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
