Lady Owls Lose Overtime Thriller

Glendora, CA (Women's Water Polo) -- The Citrus College Women's Water Polo team battled back from an early deficit, only to fall in three overtimes 7-8 to visiting LA Valley College on Tuesday afternoon. It was the first conference loss of the season for Citrus, and created a log jam at the top of the WSC standings with three teams having at least one conference win and loss.

After both teams traded goals to open up the first quarter, Valley opened up a three goal lead at the half, two of which came at the hands of conference leading scorer Lybov Tchougounouva. Trailing 5-2, Citrus rallied, getting a goal back in the third, and scoring the final three goals of the fourth quarter to send the game into overtime.

Both teams failed to score in the two opening overtime periods, sending the game into a sudden death, third overtime. After both teams struggled to get any offense rolling in the first two OT's, Valley made quick work of the match when Tchougounouva got her fourth and final goal of the game.

In the loss, Citrus was led sophomore Crystal Fabela who matched Tchougounouva's game high four goals. After Tuesday's loss the Lady Owls record moves to 9-10 overall and 2-1 in Western State Conference play. Citrus will take a break for the next two weeks, getting back into the swing of things on Friday October 31st, when they participate in the Pasadena City College Mini-Tournament.
