Glendora, CA (Women’s Water Polo) -- Freshman Meghan Turner and Sophomore Brittany Orduno combined to score seven goals and lead the Lady Owls Water Polo team past WSC rival Cuesta College 11-7 on Thursday afternoon.
Citrus came out firing, scoring six straight goals to open the competition. Turner and Orduno scored the first five and Catherine Cluck answered with the sixth as they took a commanding 6-1 lead into halftime.
In the second, Cuesta made a move scoring three of the first four goals in the second half, but Citrus calmly responded with back to back goals by Orduno and Turner at the start of the fourth quarter to put the game away for good.
Orduno would finish her day with three goals and an assist, while Turner notched a game high four scores. The Lady Owls also turned in a solid defensive effort on the State’s leading scorer Morgan Thompson, holding her to just two goals on seven shots.
With the win, Citrus improves to 7-6 overall and more importantly 1-0 in conference play, while Cuesta falls to 7-11 overall and 1-1 in Western State Conference games. The Lady Owls will hit the road again this weekend as they travel up the 210 to take part in the Pasadena Tournament.
