Presentations

You will present a mathematical problem and its solution to the class.

A topic list is given below. Once you know what topic you would like to present, come tell me. If it has not yet been selected by any other student, then the topic will be yours and you will be assigned a presentation date. If you would like to present a problem not included on the topic list, show me the problem and I will let you know if it is of adequate length and difficulty.

Your presentation should contain between 8 and 12 minutes of teaching. If your presentation does not last 8 minutes, you will be penalized for the amount of time you are short. For example, a 4 minute presentation would receive a maximum score of 50. If it goes long, you will not be penalized, but if it exceeds by too much you may be asked to sit down.

Your grade on this presentation will be determined by the following criteria:

  • Do you fully understand the problem and the solution?
  • Are you able to communicate these to the class effectively?
  • What props, tools or methods are used to help communicate your point?
  • Does the class understand what you are saying?
  • How well do you answer questions about your topic?
