Each lab is set in the weekly schedule. Where it says start lab one in week one of the weekly schedule for example click on it, it is the link to the lab.  The directions

Welcome to Introduction to Physical Anthropology Lab Section.  You will be doing eight labs over the course of the semester.

You have the option to work in small groups if you want.  I will offer a space on the message board where you can ask if anyone wants to group up.  You are welcome to use that area and/or the chat room from tapped in to discussion your work.  You and your group are to work together in whatever method you wish however ALL OF YOU will turn in independant work.   Working together DOES NOT MEAN COPYING ONE ANOTHER.  You work to help each other understand but you DO NOT just split the work and each take a lab for example.  If I see exact wording, or I suspect one person cheated off of the other ALL OF YOU will get an F.

Now many people HATE working in groups.  I get it, I actually hate it myself.  You are more than welcome to work on your lab by yourself if your lab partners refuse to cooperate, but I am giving you this chance to help each other and believe me this is a challenging class you want all the help you can get.  I am asking you all to TRY this.  If it is not working out ok but please TRY!

LAB PARTNERS

To communicate with your lab partner you may email each other, use a chat room or instant messenger program of your choice or talk on the message boards where I will create folders for you.  I suggest you work synchronously (ie chat room or instant messenger program of your choice) but it is up to you, but make sure you tell each other your schedules and make a time or plan to work together.  If you make a committment KEEP IT.  Do not leave your lab partners hanging.  If you decide to drop the course email me AND your lab partner so that you may know asap.  If a person drops the remaining person will be assigned a new group or may choose to work on their own.  At the beginning of the course you will get on the blackboard message board and find your partner and reply to the message with your email address and when is a good time for you to work etc.  You need to do this asap so you both can start communicating with each other.Remember if you do chat with each other send me the transcript so I can give you interaction points!

LABS

You will need myanthrolab that comes with the Stanford book for the labs plus the documents I have posted in the weekly schedule.  You have eight labs they are due approximately every other week.   You will read each lab and watch movies etc. and do several exercises as well as post lab questions.  Your homework is the EXERCISES as well as the POST LAB QUESTIONS.  Be sure you do all of them.  I suggest you read the entire lab before you answer questions and use your book and any other resources I give you for back up.  You and your partners are welcome to work together to help each other but again please DO NOT COPY. Each lab has interactive boxes that you click in and type for your answers.  Please be sure that you save frequently and when the labs are due you send them to me as an attachment to an email.  If you do not know how to do attachments as your lab partner, ask on the message board, or go seek help from the computer lab assistants on campus.  If you would like you can send me a test attachment before anything is due to make sure it works.  Also when you send your homework LABEL IT IN THE SUBJECT LINE.  For example: Lab #1 Bob Smith Intro to Physical Antro OR Discussion questions #2 Maria Sanchez Intro to Physical.  I have THREE online classes and keeping people straight is a challenge so labeling your email with your class and what you are sending me is super helpful.

If you have ANY questions be sure to ask early.  I will never give you the answers but I certainly can help you if you are stuck.  Remember a communicative online student is a SUCCESSFUL online student!

GRADES

Each lab is worth 50 points. Eight total labs for the semester equals 400 points possible.  Standard grades apply

90-100% is an A

80-89% is a B

70-79% is a C

60-69% is a D

59% and below is an F

Please remember the lab grade and the lecture grade are SEPERATE, if you fail one part you will have to retake it!  You need a C or higher in both parts to pass and have the course transfer.  Please do not assume one part is more important than the other, both parts are important and necessary for transfer!!
