Dr. Edward C. Ortell was first elected to the Citrus Community College District Board of Trustees in 1969 and has been reelected to consecutive terms over the past 40 years. He is the senior board member and has held all board offices, including president. Dr. Ortell has also served on the Citrus College Foundation Board of Directors as the trustee representative. Dr. Ortell currently represents Citrus College on the Los Angeles County Committee on School District Organization.
A lifelong advocate of community colleges, Dr. Ortell has lobbied state and federal legislators and has testified before the legislature on behalf of community college education. He has served on numerous boards and associations, including the California Community College Trustees; the Community College League of California Advisory Committee on Legislation; the SB 6 Master Plan for Education Task Force; the Community College Association Board of Directors; and the Los Angeles County Trustees Association.
Dr. Ortell, a professor emeritus of business and computer technology at Pasadena City College, has authored two college textbooks on mathematics and received several National Science Foundation grants. He holds a bachelor of science degree from the University of Dubuque, Iowa; a master of science degree from State University of New York; a master of arts degree from California State University, Los Angeles; and a doctorate from U.S. International University, San Diego. His honors include the Ralph Story Community Service Award; the Community College League of California Longevity Service Award; the City of Duarte Outstanding Civic Service Award and several commendations from state and federal legislators.
