Mrs. Joanne Montgomery of Monrovia was appointed to the Citrus Community College District Board of Trustees in 1998 to fill a vacancy and was elected to the board in 1999, 2003 and 2007. She currently serves as the president of the Board of Trustees and the trustee representative on the Citrus College Foundation Board of Directors.
Mrs. Montgomery was an elementary school teacher for the Monrovia Unified School District for 32 years and worked with the district's gifted and talented education program. She was also a master teacher for several universities and served on numerous school committees. Her many honors include a Teacher of the Year award.
A 2003 recipient of the Dick Lord Award from the Monrovia Chamber of Commerce, Mrs. Montgomery is very active in her community. She is a member of the Monrovia Chamber of Commerce and the chamber's BEACON (Business, Education and Community Outreach Network) Committee. She is a member of the 48th District Agriculture and Nutrition board of directors and is a member of the board of directors for the Boys and Girls Club of the Foothills. She is a member of the Monrovia Coordinating Council. Mrs. Montgomery has also been active in the PTA, Children's Home Society, League of Woman Voters, the Monrovia Guild of Children's Hospital, and the Foothill Unity Center. She has been a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Monrovia for many years.
Mrs. Montgomery grew up in Tucson, Arizona, and graduated from the University of Arizona with a Bachelor of Arts degree. While a student there, she was named to "Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities." She received a Master of Arts degree from Azusa Pacific University and completed postgraduate work at the University of Southern California, University of California Los Angeles, Pepperdine University, and the University of La Verne. She is the mother of two children, the grandmother of three, and great grandmother of two.
