Bright Futures Scholarship
In Spring 2005, the Citrus College Foundation created the Bright Futures Scholarship, a $500 scholarship to be offered to a senior attending a district high school who planned to enroll in Citrus College the following fall.

The first recipient was Dennis Thorbourn, who graduated from Monrovia High School in June 2005 and enrolled at Citrus College Fall 2005 semester. The following year, the Foundation board voted to award a Bright Futures Scholarship to a senior at each high school in the district, awarding a total of six scholarships in the amount of $500 each.

In 2008, the awards were increased to two per high school and the alternative schools were included bringing the total number of schools included to eleven. Also, in 2008, the Foundation awarded a $500 book voucher to one senior at each district high school who planned to attend Citrus College. This brought the total amount of awards last year to 33, with a monetary total of $16,500. The Foundation will award these scholarships and book vouchers again for Fall 2009.

Applications are available at each district high school and from the Foundation Office.

Readers to Leaders
Faculty member Levi Richard and Classified staff member Joyce Miyabe were instrumental in organizing a group of faculty and staff to create another book voucher scholarship, Readers to Leaders, which is available for students who have successfully completed at least 12 units at Citrus College, have a GPA of at least 2.5, are current Citrus students, and have a current Associated Students of Citrus College (ASCC) sticker. This scholarship is not only supported by faculty and staff, but also by ASCC. The first Readers to Leaders awards were made for the Spring 2009 semester. Amounts and number of awards vary.
