Green Construction at Citrus College

Citrus College Projects that Contribute to Reductions in the Carbon Footprint, Water Conservation, Environmental Protection and Energy Savings

Synthetic turf at the football and softball fields reduces the lawnmower CO2, emissions, eliminates irrigation, eliminates fertilization, reduces manpower costs. The lighting for the football and softball fields is engineered to provide direct lighting and eliminate lighting spillage off campus.

Our new exterior lighting is designed for dark sky to direct lighting down onto the parking lots and sidewalks.

The central plant, for which we have received an award, reduces natural gas usage by providing one source for usage rather than at each building by utilizing high efficiency boilers, which also reduces CO2 and nitrogen oxide emissions. It reduces electricity usage by cooling water at night and circulating chilled water during the day with only one 75 HP pump and eliminating electricity usage at each building to provide cooling.

Most of our existing and all of our new building have motion sensors to control lighting as well as energy efficient lighting fixtures and ballasts.

All of our buildings have white "cool" roofs.

We have reduced energy usage by utilizing virtual server technology.

We are currently installing plug mold occupancy sensors at work stations.

We installed multi-level classroom lighting in LB and Tech C.

We have received an award for land fill diversion with a recycling center and program.
