Chiefs of State and Cabinet Members of Foreign Governments - The CIA publishes and updates this online directory regularly.  The directory is intended to be used primarily as a reference aid and includes as many governments of the world as is considered practical, some of them not officially recognized by the United States.

CIA World Factbook - Published annually by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), this is a handy reference work for basic statistical data on the countries of the world.  Includes maps and a resource called "Flags of the World."

Country Studies/Area Handbooks - This series contains studies of more than 100 countries.  You can search across all countries or any combination of countries, browse the table of contents for a specific country, or read the full text for any of the countries listed.

CountryWatch - This is an information provider for corporations, government agencies, universities, schools, libraries and individuals needing up-to-date news and information on each of the recognized countries of the  world.

Foreign Government Information - The Documents Center is a central reference and referral point for government information, whether local, state, federal, foreign or international.  Its web pages are a reference tool for government, political science, and statistical information.

Freedom House Countries at the Crossroads - Countries at the Crossroads is an outstanding collection of concise and in depth assessment of the countries that are politically fluid.

Harvard Business School Links to Country Information - Here you can find detailed information on all countries.  Provides analysis on risks involved in trading in countries worldwide and assigns a rating to each country.  Provides key economic indicators and performance by industry. 

Infonation - Statistical Data from UN Member Nations - You can view and compare statistical data from countries that are a part of the United Nations.  Find everything from land size to population and average temperature.

International Affairs Resources - This section of the WWW Virtual Library system is an Internet directory of over 2000 annotated links to high-quality English-language sources of information and analysis in a wide range of international affairs, international studies, and international relations topics.  These sites are carefully selected for their long-term value, favoring those with cost-free, authoritative information and analysis online.

International Database (IDB) - developed by the U.S. Census Bureau  - IDB provides many types of demographic data including estimates and projections of birth, death and growth rates.  IDB's estimates and projections are prepared by the Census Bureau.

International Newslink - The resource for online newspapers around the world.  The newspapers section lists around 5400 papers and is searchable by title or location and is also indexed geographically.  In addition the U.S. papers are indexed by state, frequency of publication, and publication category.

LANIC (UTex) - The mission of LANIC is to provide Latin American users with access to academic databases and information services throughout the Internet, and to provide Latin Americanists around the world with access to information on and from Latin America.

Portals to the World - Portals of the World contains selective links providing authoritative, in depth information about the nations and other areas of the world.  They are arranged by country.  Links are selected by area specialists and other library staff using Library of Congress selection criteria.

Stat-USA - STAT-USA is a part of the U.S. Department of Commerce.  STAT-USA provides three main informational services, in addition to several other services catering to specific users.  The three main information databases are STAT-USA/Internet, USA Trade Online, and EuroTrade Online.

United Nations - The official website of the United Nations, maintained by the UN's Department of Public Information.  It includes general information, history, addresses and email addresses of member states, and an events calendar.  Includes links to the Dag Hammarskjold Library where the full text of general assembly session documents can be downloaded.
