Steps for Research

1) Get a copy of your story
2) Go online to Masterplots & Magill On Literature Plus
  or, Get the Masterplots for your story at the Reference Desk
3) Use the online databases to look for critical essays:
English 101
  Literature Resource Center
  EbscoHost 
4) Find more critical essays in print sources:
  Short Story Criticism
  Walker's 20th Century Short Story Explication
  Other: American Writers, Black Literature Criticism
5) Search the Library Catalog, with your author as a Subject to find books of 'Criticism and Interpretation'
6) Try our Internet Links/ Literature page for links to databases such as Women Writers of Color, American Writers Gateway, and Pink Monkey
7) Try an internet search, using a search engine such as Google , typing in "story title" authorname - be cautious about the results - avoid cheap research paper sites
Remember, make notes on where you obtain each piece of information - see the Works Cited Formats handout for the information you need to note down.
