My Citrus Story- Anneliese Trujillo
As if they are now, and later they shall be.
When I graduated from Covina High in 2007, my 2.6 GPA showed how I hadn’t focused on academics. I knew something in my life needed to change. The thought of attending a community college was not appealing, but I knew it was the smartest decision I could make — both academically and financially. It has turned out to be the best decision of my life.
When I entered Citrus College, my goal was to simply take the required classes and transfer as soon as possible. When I started participating in campus organizations, I adjusted my plans. I developed a passion for campus life, becoming vice president of the Alpha Gamma Sigma Honor society as well as secretary of the Associated Students of Citrus College student government board. Later I joined Psi Beta, Phi Theta Kappa, and the Latina Leadership Network. I also got a job at the Learning Center and Math Success Center.
As I became more involved, my grades improved markedly until I was making the President’s and Dean’s lists every semester, eventually becoming a finalist for Citrus's "Woman Of the Year" in 2010. My crowning achievement was being awarded the 2010 Latina Leadership Network Scholarship.
The relationships that I have forged at Citrus have already proved invaluable. One of my counselors recommended an internship I received at the Department of Labor in April 2010. Soon I will transfer to Cal Poly Pomona as a sociology and communications major. I am excited to see what my future holds — and hopeful I can make a difference in others’ lives.
Thank you Citrus College for changing my life and inspiring me to leave this world a better place.
