My Citrus Story - Jacquelyn Merrit Swinney

As if we are now, and later we shall be.

I got a late start on my college education.  I married young and had four children, two girls and two boys.  When they were elementary age,  my husband left me and I became a single mom with a high school education.  I decided to go back to school.

My very first class at Citrus College was sociology with Dr. Moses. After beginning with one class a semester, I began taking two, then eventually three classes. I decided to major in English and library science and enrolled in the Library Media Technician Assistant program, with Mrs. Aline Wisdom as my guide. With her encouragement I hung in there, and after graduating with honors in 1974, I transferred my credits to Cal State Fullerton and earned a B.A. in English in 1976, and a master's in library science in 1978. In 1976, I married a church youth director, and he became a dad to my "built -in" youth group! I worked as a librarian at Azusa Pacific University for 15 years and now work as an adjunct in the Hayden Library at Citrus.

I have come full circle; my life has been very rich and Citrus is and has been a vital part of that life.
