MY CITRUS STORY - LINDA BRUSE
As if they are now, and later they shall be.
When I enrolled at Citrus College, I had not been in college for more than a quarter of a century. It just wasn’t a priority for me back then because I had come from a poor working class background and education wasn’t emphasized. Along the way, I simply stopped attending classes and got a job. Eventually, I got married and started a family. I didn’t think getting a college degree was possible.
After my youngest son graduated from high school, I took a course with him at Citrus. Surrounded with encouraging and caring faculty members, I began to see that getting a degree was possible. So, even though it took work and lots of help in basic skills courses – particularly with math courses – my return to college proved to be a very successful “team” effort. I completed the Honors Program and graduated with two degrees from Citrus alongside my son. Now enrolled in Azusa Pacific University’s Accelerated Teaching Program, I believe that anything is possible. In fact, my whole family has been inspired by my experiences at Citrus. My oldest son will graduate this year, and even my husband has returned to college.
