Citrus College Departments Collaborate to Produce Unique Art Exhibit
by Stacy Armstrong

It was a logical partnership.   The Citrus College Photography Department needed models and the Cosmetology Department needed photographs.

The result is “The Art of Hair,” a unique new exhibit that will soon be on display in the Citrus College Hayden Memorial Library Art Gallery.

“The purpose of the exhibit is to provide our students with a platform for demonstrating their talents,” said Gus Brooks, director of the Citrus College Cosmetology Department.  “This is the result of our students’ creativity and hard work.”

The exhibit, which debuts on October 29, will feature enlarged photographs of elaborate hair styles created by Citrus College Cosmetology students.   These pictures will be the work of Citrus College photography students.

“We wanted this exhibit to promote the photography and cosmetology programs, while also exposing the community to the level of professionalism that our students demonstrate,” said Darrell Carr, Citrus College photography instructor.

A reception will be held on November 4 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.  During this free event, the public will have the opportunity to not only view the exhibit, but to talk to some of the artists and enjoy light refreshments.

“We hope that community members and professionals from the two fields attend the reception to meet and network with these young, exciting, and talented students who will soon be entering the business world,” Brooks said.

“The Art of Hair” is scheduled to close on December 2.  The Hayden Memorial Library art gallery is open during library hours, Mondays through Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“This all started from a need in both departments,” Carr said.  “The result is a unique exhibit that demonstrates the importance of academic integration between disciplines.”
