Woods Re-Elected to Citrus Community College District’s Governing Board

Dr. Gary L. Woods, vice president of the Citrus Community College District Board of Trustees, has been re-elected by over 75 percent of the voters to serve a seventh term.  Dr. Woods represents Area 1, which includes Azusa, Covina, Glendora and Irwindale.

“Citrus College is recognized for its outstanding programs, quality of educational offerings and positive impact on our communities,” said Dr. Woods.  “There will be many challenges ahead, and I am eager to work with the members of the Citrus College community to maintain excellence and provide the best possible community college education for the residents of our area.”

“Our mission is to continue providing a quality educational program for our students,” Dr. Woods added.  “This past year has been difficult because of the financial crisis in California, and it is not going to go away.  From all indications 2010 will be worse financially, and it is important to have members on the Board of Trustees that understand the budget so that decisions are made in a fiscally-responsible manner.”

A professor of accounting and law at Pasadena City College, Dr. Woods has been an educator for 41 years and an attorney for 29 years.  He has been nominated “outstanding college teacher of the year” three times, was twice awarded the California Community League of Trustee’s Service Award for his years of outstanding service to the community, served as a member of the California State Accreditation Committee for Community Colleges, was a member of the governing board for Goodwill Industries, and is listed in Who’s Who Among American Teachers.

Dr. Woods holds a bachelor of science degree in accounting and a master of science degree in education from the University of Southern California.  He also holds a juris doctorate from Southwestern University School of Law and a certificate from the Institute of International and Comparative Law at University of San Diego School of Law.
