Azusa Resident Serves as Official Student Host of Citrus College

by Rachel White

Azusa resident Karen Ramirez is currently serving as a Citrus College Student Ambassador.

The 20-year-old communication major joins eight other students who have been serving in this elite position since the start of the fall 2009 semester.

“The Citrus College Student Ambassador Program is comprised of a select group of knowledgeable, motivated and enthusiastic students with specialized skills who work together as a team to represent Citrus College in a variety of activities,” said Ivon McCraven, coordinator of the Student Ambassador Program.

“My goals as a student ambassador are to educate students about the great programs and services Citrus has to offer and to inspire them to succeed in school and become involved on campus,” Ramirez said.

Ramirez’s role as a student ambassador includes escorting students on campus tours, staffing booths at college fairs, speaking at local high schools, and representing Citrus College at community events.

“As someone who struggled to take education seriously in the past, I hope that I can inspire those who do not consider themselves ‘school people’ to see that with just a little extra effort, many doors will open for them and they can achieve their goals,” Ramirez said.

The Azusa resident believes that enrolling at Citrus College was one of the best decisions she ever made.

“I like everything about Citrus,” Ramirez said.  “The staff is extremely helpful and the services provided to students are great.  I now feel more prepared to transfer to a four-year university.  The leadership skills I have acquired from being in the Student Ambassador Program will help me as I enter the workforce.”

Ramirez will graduate this May from Citrus and plans on transferring to a four-year university and earning a bachelor’s degree in communications.
