By Rachel White

Spend summer 2010 learning and living in enchanting Florence, Italy.

The Citrus College Study Abroad Program is now accepting applications for its summer in Florence.  The deadline to apply is April 6.

From July 1 through July 23, earn 3 to 6 units of CSU/UC transferable credit while being immersed in Italy’s vibrant and historic culture.  Students from any community college or university may participate.  Community members are also invited to apply.

Participants will live in fully-equipped, shared apartments in the historical center of Florence and receive museum passes with unlimited entry to the Uffizi, Accademia, Bargello, Pitti Palace, San Marco Museum, and Medici Chapel.

The program also includes several day excursions with visits to UNESCO World Heritage sites.  Students will travel with English speaking guides to medieval towns such as Siena and San Gimignano to see examples of priceless art and architectural treasures.  Guided tours include Assisi, to visit the Basilica of St. Francis and view frescos by Cimabue and Giotto; Pisa with its famous leaning tower; Lucca and its intact Renaissance-era walls; and Perugia, the capital city of the region of Umbria.

In addition, participants can spend three days and two nights in Venice cruising the Grand Canal and strolling through St. Mark’s Square.  Water bus passes are included so students can travel to some of the nearby Venetian Islands.  Tour goers can observe the glass blowing in Murano, view the interesting traditionally painted houses and lace making in Burano, or sit on Attila the Hun’s stone chair in Torcello.

The Citrus College Study Abroad Program offers two courses for students studying in Italy:  Art 110, Introduction to Visual Arts; and History 103, History of World Civilization to 1500.

Prices range from $2,795 to $3,145 plus air.
