Citrus College Receives Reaffirmation of Accreditation

Glendora, Calif. - Citrus College has received a six-year reaffirmation of accreditation by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).    A six-year accreditation is the longest period of accreditation ACCJC offers.

Superintendent/President Dr. Geraldine M. Perri received notice of the college’s reaccreditation from the ACCJC on February 3.   “The reaffirmation of accreditation is wonderful news for Citrus College,” she said.  “I would like to acknowledge and thank our Board of Trustees for their active leadership in ensuring our success. The fact that our accreditation was reaffirmed validates Citrus College’s effectiveness in meeting our institutional mission through the dedication of our highly qualified faculty and staff, and through the institution’s outstanding academic programs and student support services.”

Dr. Gary L. Woods, president of the Citrus Community College District Board of Trustees commented, “The administration, faculty, students, and staff are to be commended for their outstanding efforts and the positive outcomes that resulted in our accreditation being reaffirmed.  This accomplishment will further energize and inspire us as we endeavor to provide members of the community with access to higher education.”

The reaffirmation of accreditation was a result of nearly two years of self-evaluation and preparation that involved 175 Citrus College faculty, staff, students and board members.   In October 2009, an 11-member team of California community college faculty and administrators spent four days at the college interviewing employees, visiting classes, and reviewing documents to assure the quality of education that Citrus College provides.  The site visit is an integral part of the accreditation process.

“I am grateful to our outstanding faculty and dedicated staff for their important role in fulfilling our mission of preparing our students to achieve their educational and career goals,” said Dr. Perri.  “I commend our accreditation co-chairs Dr. Jeanne Hamilton and Ms. Roberta Eisel for their exemplary leadership during the process.”
